The Road to Home

Granted political asylum in the UK in 2004, Wenda’s freedom of movement was restricted in 2011 when, at the behest of the Indonesian government, Interpol issued a ‘red notice’ putting him at extreme risk of extradition should he travel.〔Daily Telegraph http://www.telegraph.co.uk/expat/expatlife/8920491/Benny-Wenda-Theres-a-silent-genocide-going-on-in-West-Papua.html〕 The following year the ‘red notice’ was lifted after being deemed “predominantly political in nature”.〔BBC News http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-19149678〕 Wenda then embarked on a world-wide “Freedom Tour”〔Benny Wenda website article http://bennywenda.org/2013/freedom-tour/〕 to build support and awareness for the West Papuan Independence movement.
